Pacific Islands on the internet

For our region, Google returns 245 million hits for the Asia Pacific but just 24 million for Pacific Islands, including pages with Asia on it.

By comparison, Australia appears on
1.5 billion web pages while New Zealand returns 674 million Google hits. Moving outside the region, the word America returns 2.74 billion and Europe 1.97 billion. For Africa, there are 1.3 billion web pages and the Middle East 579 million pages. To really zero in, there are just 14.5 millionweb pages featuring the words Pacific Islands alone without Asia. In other words, in a global market of more than 11 billion webpages, the Pacific Islands makes up just over one tenth of one per cent kind of like a fingernail sized piece of bread from a whole loaf.

Obviously, Pacific Islands cannot dream of ever catching up with the web footprints of more advanced, populous regions. What Pacific Islands can do is to leapfrog culturally over other countries, producing pages high in quality - authentic - text and images.
